Trader Joe's has to be one of my favorite stores on the face of this earth. I recently did a bit of a shop there and I wanted to share what I got with you!
If you don't have a Trader Joe's near you-let me explain it to you. Trader Joe's is a store that sells an incredible amount of vegan food for incredible prices. Although they don't just sell vegan food, they have a huge variety. The coolest part is that if there is a product you want to try but don't want to buy in case if you don't like it, the employees will gladly let you sample it. Every single employee that I have interacted with has been so kind and so pleasant.
So, let's get to it!

Shredded Hash Browns

Hash Browns

If you know me at all, you would know that I live for hash browns. You know how Leslie Knope lives for waffles? That's me with hash browns. Sadly, many of them aren't vegan because they contain milk. However, these are and they make me so happy. You can just pop them in the oven and they're done in minutes!

Vegan Mozzarella Cheese

I have tried probably every single vegan cheese there is, and this is definitely up there in my favorites! I love to put it in burritos. It is one of the only cheeses that melts how I like it too. Most vegan cheese will melt only in the microwave or oven, but this cheese will melt just in a burrito from the other things being hot.

Vegan Tiki Masala

I find myself eating the most unhealthy when I am in a hurry. So I've decided to start picking up some microwavable meals. While I know that this isn't the healthiest option, it is much better than eating 17 clif bars a day. This Tikka Masala is INCREDIBLE! It takes 6 minutes to cook and is so good! It is the perfect amount of spicy.

Broccoli Florets

I have been LOVING broccoli lately! I don't know what it is-I honestly used to be so against it but now I can't get enough. I usually just steam these babies and throw them on top of rice with tofu and other veggies

Speaking of veggies to throw on rice, this is my go-to! It is corn, edamame, and peppers. I heat it up the same way as the broccoli and make a little rice bowl. It is a great and nutritious dinner that I eat nearly every night.

Sweet Potato Frites

If I could marry sweet potato fries, I would. But since I can't do that, I just eat them all the time! These are my favorite frozen sweet potato fries! I just put them in the oven and throw some salt, pepper, and sometimes rosemary and eat them in 0.034 seconds.

Thank you all so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed. If you stop by Trader Joe's soon, you should totally pick up some of these to try. I swear you won't regret it!

Have a wonderful morning, afternoon, or night!

So I was reading a blog post by the lovely Sarah today and it made me so excited! She had an incredible idea to do a Secret Santa between cruelty-free/vegan influencers! That got me thinking and I decided it would be fun to put my own little twist on it!
Read Sarah's original blog post here!

The Rules
In order to participate, you must email me at plantbasedkay@gmail.com your
  1. Name
  2. Address (will only be shared with the person you are paired up with)
  3. Social Media handles/ blog links/ youtube channels
  4. Anything else you think that myself or your Secret Santa would need to know
Please do not share this information with me on any social media's instead of email. I don't want to risk my twitter getting hacked and your information being leaked.

In order to participate, you must be vegan or cruelty-free. Because of this, if I check out your social media and if you have nothing posted about veganism, I may not be able to include you.

This will be worldwide! In order to save on shipping costs, I will pair you up with people who live in the same country as you. If I am not able to do this, we can discuss the options.

There is a $10 (or equivalent to) MINIMUM on gifts, meaning you must spend $10 on the gift. You are welcome to spend more, but you are not required to.

You MUST email me by October 31st to be apart of this

I will then share the name, address, and social media of the person I paired you up with on November 6th. Remember, it's called SECRET Santa for a reason. Make sure you don't tell the person that you're their Secret Santa!

You MUST ship the gift by December 1st
Let's talk about this part for a bit. There is no way of me enforcing this whole gift giving thing. I am not going to make you sign your life away or send the cops after you. But please, be a decent human being. If you decide you don't want to do this anymore, just let me know and I'll rearrange things. Do not just not send the gift. Thank you.

Check in on the person's social media to know when you can tell them that you were their Secret Santa. Or you don't have to tell them at all! If you post a photo or tweet about your gift, please use the hashtag #PBKSecretSanta in it! That way we can all see what everyone got!

If it isn't too much extra money, try to get a tracking number on the package! This way nothing will get lost in the post and you can be sure your person got their gift, and when they got it.

The Gift

I am going to leave this part very open-ended. As long as you meet the $10 minimum, feel free to go crazy! I am hoping that some of the things sent are food, beauty products, crafts, postcards-anything! Be creative!
Feel free to check out the person's social media links to get an idea of the things they're into! You don't want to send a gluten-free vegan a loaf of bread, ya know?

Please just remember that I am not responsible for any lost packages or gifts you do not like. Since I am organizing this, I can't even participate. I am just here to facilitate the whole thing

I am so excited for this and I can't wait to see what everyone sends and receives!

Please email me or leave a comment with any questions! Plantbasedkay@gmail.com

I would like to think that I am somewhat of a healthy person. But then sometimes I just get on these junk food kicks that I can't shake until I eat something that could possibly kill me. But it's vegan so it MUST be healthy, right?! No.
But still, I can't help myself. I went to Stop and Shop today and spent $30 on my favorite vegan junk food items, so I thought I'd share them with you!

Lightlife Smart Jerky

vegan junk food

While the rest of these items are in a random order, I put this at the top for a reason. If any of you follow me on any of my social medias, you know that I cannot get enough of this stuff. To be honest, I never even liked regular beef jerky, but then I tried this at a Vegfest and I couldn't get enough. If you've never tried vegan jerky, you have to! Plus this brand is based in Massachusetts, and I love supporting local companies.

American Flatbread Vegan Harvest

vegan junk food

There are a LOT of vegan pizzas on the market, but I must admit this is my favorite. The cheese melts perfectly. Even my non-vegan family begs me to have a piece of this! The best part? I got it for $3.50 because I had a coupon and it was on sale!

Amy's Kitchen No Chicken Noodle Soup

vegan junk food

I used to LOVE chicken noodle soup before I was vegan. I had officially accepted my fate of non-chicken noodle-ness, but then I saw this in Whole Foods for the first time and finally felt alive again! Let me tell you-this tastes EXACTLY like chicken noodle soup. It's honestly a bit scary. But scary in a good way. I highly recommend you pick this up if you can find it anywhere.

Chao Tomato Cayenne Cheese

vegan junk food

I'm not exactly sure if I would classify this as vegan junk food, but let's just go with it! This stuff is incredible. Both the original and this flavor are incredible. It is so creamy and it actually melts. I have yet to have a vegan cheese that I could eat plain, but I enjoy eating this! I highly recommend this to everyone. I know the original flavor is a bit more difficult to find, but it is so worth it. The price of this is actually quite steep at $5.99 a pack, but it quite often goes on sale.

Enjoy Life Snickerdoodle Cookies

vegan junk food

These cookies are a total holy grail product to not only all vegans, but vegans with allergies. This brand is super allergen conscious but still makes incredible food. These cookies are TO DIE FOR. They're super chewy and flavorful. The snickerdoodles are my favorite, but I know they make a chocolate chip and double chocolate flavor. And I can tell you from experience-it is very easy to eat an entire box...oops...

Well anyways, I hope y'all enjoyed this post! Please feel free to check out my other posts on vegan food-I've done a lot!
Leave a comment telling me what your favorite vegan junk food is!
I hope you have a wonderful morning, afternoon, or night!

Considering this is my last night of being 18, I decided to spontaneously throw together this little blog post at 9 pm and publish it. I hope you gain something from this.
  1. Being nice to someone can set the tone for the rest of their day. Being rude can also do the same thing. Always chose to be kind.
  2. Not everyone is meant to stay in your life forever. Think of personal relationships as a tree. some friends are like leaves-they leave you soon. some friends are twigs-they are with you for a short time and then they leave. Some friends are like branches-they'll be with you forever. Don't be upset if someone leaves-they helped you grow in some way.
  3. Don't hold back. If you have something to say-say it. Your opinions, your life story, say it loud.
  4. Everyone is fucked up in their own way. Even the people who seem like they have the perfect life are still fucked up-probably more than you.
  5. Don't close yourself off. This is something that I have quite the habit of doing. If someone starts to get too close to you-don't push them away. Even if it feels like you'll never move on if you lose them, try to open yourself up to another person.
  6. Not everyone is going to like you. And that's okay. Don't waste your time trying to please everyone because it's not going to happen.
  7. Forgiveness. I truly feel like forgiveness is the best way to heal yourself. Even if the other person isn't sorry. Focusing on anger isn't hurting the other person-it's hurting you.
  8. It's never as bad as you think it is. Think back on all the times you thought you couldn't move on or couldn't make it through. You did.
  9. Leave the electronics behind for a couple of hours. It can be so easy to be wrapped up in the online world that you forget about the real world. Take a few hours every day to just turn off the internet and live in the moment.
  10. Never take anything (or anyone) for granted
  11. Just say yes. Say yes to things that are out of your comfort zone. Who knows, you might love them!
  12. Don't wish time away, you'll never get it back.
  13. Do things for YOU, not for anyone else's benefit
  14. Let yourself be happy
  15. You can't help someone if they are not willing to help themselves
  16. Writing down things will always make you feel better. Just do it.
  17. Feeling guilty is okay, even if it is not your fault.
  18. Numbers don't matter. Whether it's followers, friends, or whatever. Always think quality over quantity.
  19. It's okay to feel sad sometimes. Embrace it and move forwards.

I was casually walking around my local Whole Foods, spending more money than I should on novelty vegan foods that to be quite honest-I don't need. That is when I spotted them.
I have seen all about the Beyond Meat Beyond burgers on blogs and social media, but I had yet to find them. When I saw them, I knew I HAD to have them.
When I got home, I decided to cook it up immediately. I wasn't actually sure how to season it, but I just threw some salt and pepper on it and called it a day.
Look at that! It honestly looks so much like meat its a bit scary. For those of you who may have allergies or are concerned about the ingredients in the burgers, I took a photo for you.

Once my pan heated up, I saw something I hadn't seen in quite a long time. SIZZLING!!!!
One thing that I feel that sets this burger apart is the juiciness. I feel like every burger I cook needs to be heavily oiled so it doesn't stick to the pan. With the Beyond Meat burger, I didn't even grease the pan!
I had a difficult time knowing when it was done cooking, but I cooked it on each side for about 5 minutes, keeping a careful eye on it.
Once it was done, I put it on a bun with no condiments or anything. In order to give a fair review, I didn't want to add anything to it.

After spending some time admiring the beauty of this burger, I took the best bite of my life. I swear to you, this is the closest to beef a vegan burger will ever be. It is a bit scary to be honest! If you're a person who likes veggie burgers because they taste healthy, this is not the burger for you. But if you're craving a super juicy burger, you're in luck! The texture is CRAZY! I swear if you gave this to someone an told them it was a beef burger, they wouldn't think twice about it.
I cannot wait to have this with vegan cheese, lettuce, and avocado!
Now this burger does have a steep price tag. It is $7 for two burgers. While this is cheaper than ordering a veggie burger at a restaurant, this is not the cheapest veggie burger on the market.
But overall, I would give this burger a 9/10. I HIGHLY recommend you give this burger a try if you can find it!

Veganism absolutely comes with it's fair share of ups and downs-but the good by far outweighs the bad! Everyone goes vegan for different reasons, and honestly I am still not sure about why I originally went vegan. But since I recently surpassed my first full year as a vegan, (Yay me!!!!) I decided it was time to reflect on why I am still vegan today!

1.) Energy Levels
Before I was vegan, I would drink 6+ large coffees a day. SIX LARGE COFFEES A DAY! Not only was that bad for my health, that was costing me about $20 daily! Now, I am officially off caffeine and I feel better than I ever have before. If you are vegan and are still feeling pretty low on energy, click here to read my post on veganism and b-12!

2.) My Self Control
Before I was vegan, I could never turn down a cupcake, or ice cream, or cheeseburger, but now I can look at something tempting, realize that it is bad for me, and say no. This applies to all aspects of my life as well. I feel like since going vegan, I am better at budgeting time and saying no to things I really do not have time for.

3.) Confidence
One thing I have always struggled a bit with is confidence. This is due to many factors, but one of them being that I never truly believed in anything strong enough that I could fully back it...confidently. Until veganism came along. This is something that I am so passionate about, so I feel totally comfortable talking about it because I am confident that I will always support it

4.) Making a Change
I love veganism so much because even if you aren't an activist, or even if you never talk about veganism to anyone, you are still making a difference in the lives of animals and the health of the planet.

5.) Pickiness
Before being a vegan, I am pretty sure that I was the pickiest person on the planet. I wouldn't even LOOK at a tomato. But since going vegan, I am open to so many foods! I have discovered some of my favorite tastes in vegan food-stuff I would never touch before! Except mushrooms and olives. Those will always be off limits.

6.) My Skin
I have always had VERY problematic skin. It is super acne prone and when I get a spot, it will leave a mark for a solid two months. While my skin is still a bit difficult, it has cleared up so much! I definitely am less prone to acne, and when I do get it, it goes away very quickly.

7.) The Community
Since going vegan, I have had so many opportunities to talk to and meet some of the most incredible people in the entire world. As much as we get hated on, I honestly feel that the vegan community is full of the kindest people. Social media is a huge thing for me and I love being able to connect with people who live across the world, and bond over a common passion.

8.) This Blog
Many of you may not know this, but before plant based kay, I had a somewhat successful blog titled makeup by kayla. As much as I am passionate about beauty topics, I felt as though I was wasting my time and wasting my reach by talking about something as trivial as beauty products. When I made the switch to blogging about veganism, I lost so many followers and a major part of my financial income. But to be honest, it was all worth it. Now I am passionate about what I am doing and even though I am reaching less people, I believe that I am still making a difference

9.) My Physical Health
I was never a suuuper unhealthy person before going vegan. But now, I truly believe that I live a healthy life. I thoroughly enjoy healthy food and I don't just eat it because I have to, I eat it because I want to.

10.) I Never Feed Restricted
Before going vegan, I was big into calorie counting and making sure I wouldn't eat more than I should in a day. Honestly, it going tiring! And stressful! Now since going vegan, I feel likeI dont need to count calories because I am only eating real, plant based foods and my body knows when it is full.

Thank you all so much for reading! I would really appreciate if you commented your favorite part about being vegan in the comments below! Having a wonderful morning, afternoon, or night!

I recently took a trip to the lovely city of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. Quite frankly, within three days, I ate enough food to kill a small army. I did not have a single meal that I wasn't a fan of. I am not sure if these restaurants are only in the Montreal area or if they are found in other places, but needless to say I HIGHLY recommend all of these restaurants!

COPPER BRANCH.

Not only is the company great, their food is even better! It is a completely plant-based restaurant with enough options to satisfy anyone! It kind of reminds me of panera bread, expect healthier and tastier! I ordered the Aztec bowl and I was so surprised at how big the portions are! I couldn't even finish it! Students even get 10% off with an ID!

We had planned out most of the places we wanted to go to eat before arriving in Montreal, but this place was a spontaneous trip. All I can say is the risk payed off! I wish I could remember the name of the meal I got, but it was essentially a tofu scramble sandwich. It was so filling at such a fair price! All of the employees were so kind and very patient with us when we struggled to read the menu because it was in French.

MY friend and I had been looking forward to this place forever! There are a few locations around Montreal, so wherever you are, you're never too far! I ordered the vegan quesidilla the second I saw it on the menu. It was so flavorful and delicious! The whole vibe of the restaurant is adorable. While not everything is vegan, it is all vegetarian and there are PLENTY of vegan options. We also HAD to order a vegan tiramisu for desert and I'm not going to lie, it was probably the best desert I've ever had.

I have to admit, this was my favorite place I was able to eat at during this trip. We loved it so much that we went to two different locations! The restaurants themselves are so aesthetically pleasing and the food is even better. The first time I went, I ordered avocado toast off of the brunch menu, and a green smoothie. Everything tasted so fresh and so healthy! The next day, we went for dinner and I must say it was an even better experience. I ordered vegan mac and cheese and poutine. I swear you could take someone here and they wouldn't even know that everything was vegan. It was all so creamy and flavorful and was the perfect end to a trip to Montreal. When I go back, I am absolutely revisiting LOV multiple times!

If any of you ever have the chance to go to Montreal, you have to go! It is one of my favorite cities in the world because it is so full of life and culture.
Here are a few other non-food related photos from my trip:

Thank you all so much for reading! I hope you have a wonderful morning, afternoon, or night!
